Book Review: “Allergic”

Allergic by Megan Wagner Lloyd and Michelle Mee Nutter

“A coming-of-age middle-grade graphic novel featuring a girl with severe allergies who just wants to find the perfect pet!  At home, Maggie is the odd one out. Her parents are preoccupied with getting ready for a new baby, and her younger brothers are twins and always in their own world. Maggie loves animals and thinks a new puppy is the answer, but when she goes to select one on her birthday, she breaks out in hives … Can Maggie outsmart her allergies?” (Amazon summary)

This 240 page Scholastic Book gets 5 stars (out of 5) from 88% its reviewers on Amazon. As one mother wrote:

“My 9 year old daughter with anaphylactic food allergies LOVES this book. She read it twice the day she received it and has read it almost every day since. She gave a presentation to her class about it because it’s now her favorite book. After her presentation the other girls in her class gathered around the book and they all asked about it. Definitely a great book for kids with allergies!”
